Chicken Invaders (DX Edition) is the first episode of the Chicken Invaders franchise, which was first released on July 24th 1999. It's the canonical start of the franchise.
It has been followed up by a remastered version on January 31st 2023 (first released as a public Beta eleven days earlier).
The game features very simple gameplay, with only one weapon, and the same waves every system. Unlike the others, this game never ends (you can read more on that here).

Trivia
This version isn't the first Chicken Invaders ever, as the DOS version came before it. It, however, never was released. Nothing much is left from those versions today, aside from the title screen and some of its code that still gets used in the engine to this day.
This version is also the first one to use rendered graphics, as the DOS version used pixel art instead. The Hero didn't exist in it, instead, the player was controlling a handgun.
The engine sprite for the spaceship in the original was taken from Mach 9.9, an earlier InterAction studios game.
This is the only game not to have any editions.
You cannot move freely in this game, only left and right, mimicking the original Space Invaders which this game parodies.
The opening theme of the game is "Also Sprach Zarathustra - Op. 30" by Richard Strauss. This was chosen because it is the theme used in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The Remastered version reuses some assets from future games. Currently only the Earth in the intro, in previous versions also the Space Burger store.
